Maraka Grahas

In Chapter 44 of BPHS Parasara says, O Brahmin! Third and Eighth Bhava are the two Bhavas of longevity. The Bhavas, related to death, are the 12th from each of these, i.e. Dhana and Yuvati Bhava are Maraka Bhavas. (BPHS 2-5)

Out of the two maraka bhavas, Dhana Bhava is a powerful Maraka Bhava. Along with it the following are also considered to be Marakas

• The Lords of Dhana and Yuvati Bhava
• Malefics in Dhana and Yuvati Bhava
• Malefics conjoined with Dhana and Yuvati bhava’s Lords (BPHS 44.3)

The major and sub-periods of these Grahas will bring death on the native, depending on whether he is a long life, medium life, or short life person.

The Dasha of a benefic Graha, related to twelfth lord may also inflict death.

End may descend on the native in Eighth Lord’s Dasha.

The Dasha of a Graha, which is an exclusive malefic, may also cause death (BPHS 44.6 - 44.7)

Predominant Killer

If Saturn is ill-disposed and be related to a Maraka Graha (as mentioned above), he will be the first to kill in preference to other Grahas. (BPHS 44.9)

There are three kinds of life-spans, viz. short, medium and long. Short life is before 32 years, later on up to 64 it is medium life and from 64 to 100 it is long life. Beyond 100 the longevity is called Purnayu (10-14). Persons falling into these three compartments shall die in specific constellations based on the Navatara shceme of classification of the Nakshatras into three groups. According to Pt. Sanjay Rath, if the Janma Nakshatra is stronger to initiate the vimshottari dasa, then the Navatara chakra is initiated from the Lagna Nakshatra and vice-versa.

• One born with short life combinations may face death in the Dasha, denoted by Vipat star (3rd from the birth star)
• One of medium life may die in the Dasha, denoted by Pratyak star (5th from the birth star).
• In the Dasha, denoted by Vadha star (7th from the birth star), one with long life may obtain his end.

Longevity Calculation prohibited by Parasara before the native attains 20 years of Age. He says to Maitreya, O excellent of the Brahmin! It is impossible to decide upon longevity till the native is 20 years old. Till such year the child should be protected by sacred recitations, religious offerings (of Ghee etc.) to consecrated fire, as prescribed in the Vedas and scriptures and through medical treatments; premature death may descend on the child due to sins of father and mother, or of his/her own (in the previous birth).

• The Dasha of the Lord of the 22nd Decanate, or 23rd, or 3rd, or 5th, or 7th asterisms may also cause death.

• The Lords of the 2^nd and the 12^th i.e., Sun and Mercury, counted from Cancer, may also bring death. This is true, when the Moon is a malefic. If he happens to be a benefic, there will be diseases (not death).

• Death may come to pass in the Dasha of Sixth lord and in the sub-periods of Sixth, Eighth and/or Twelfth Lords.

Death Vs. Miseries

Should there be many Marakas and, if these Marakas are strong, there will be diseases, miseries etc. in major and sub-periods. Thus these are Marakas and are primarily related to bring death upon the native. According to their dispositions there may be death, or difficulties.

Rahu and Ketu, as Marakas.

• If Rahu, or Ketu are placed in Lagna, Seventh, Eighth, or Twelfth Bhava, or happen to be in the 7th from a Marak Lord, or are placed with such a Grah, they acquire powers of killing in their major, or sub-periods.

• For one born in Makar, or in Vrischik, Rahu will be a Marak. For Capricorn, Rahu becomes the 2^nd lord and for Vrishchika, it becomes the 4^th lord.

• Should Rahu be in Sixth, Eighth, or Twelfth Bhava, he will give difficulties in his Dasha periods. He will not, however, do so, if Rahu receives a Drishti from, or is yuti with a benefic. (This is true for all the planets, who when aspected by benefics give beneficial results and tone down their malefic results.)

Third house and cause of Death.

• If Surya, being with strength, is in third house, one will obtain his death, due to a king (legal punishments).
• Chandra in third house will cause death, due to tuberculosis.
• Wounds, weapons, fire and thirst will cause death through Mangal in third house.
• If third house receives a Drishti from, or is occupied by Śani and Rahu, death will be through poison, water, or fire, or fall from heights, or confinement.
• Death will surely come through insects, or leprosy, if Chandr and Gulika occupy, or give a Drishti to third house.
• Budha, giving a Drishti to, or occupying third house, will bring death, followed by fever.
• Guru in or giving a Drishti to third house, will cause death by swelling, or tumours.
• Urinary diseases will cause death, if Shukr is in, or gives a Drishti to third house.
• Many Grahas, giving a Drishti to, or occupying third house, will bring death through many diseases.

Note: In the upadesha sutras of Maharishi Jaimini it is mentioned that cause of death can be seen from the 3rd and 8th from Arudha Lagna.

Place of Death

If Sahaj Bhava is occupied by a benefic, death will be in an auspicious place (like a shrine) and, if Sahaj Bhava is occupied by a malefic, death will be in sinful places. Mixed occupation of Sahaj Bhava will yield mixed results with regard to the place of death.

10-14. O Brahmin, I tell you further about Marakas. Narrated earlier are three kinds of life spans, viz. short, medium, and long. 15-21. I further mention about the Maraka planets. One born with short life combinations may face death in the Dasa denoted by Vepat star (3rd from birth star); one of medium life may die in the dasa denoted by Pratyak star (5th from birth star). In the dasa denoted by Vadha star (7th from birth star), one with long life may obtain his end. The dasa of the lord of 22nd decanate or the one of 23rd, 3rd, 5th, or 7th asterisms may also cause death.

The lords of the 2nd and 12th counted from the Moon sign may bring death, this is true when the said ruler is a malefic and if he be a benefic there will be (only) diseases (but not death). Death may come to pass in the dasa of 6th lord and in the sub periods of 6th,8th, and 12th lords. Should there be many Marakas (endowed with the power of killing) and be strong, there will be diseases, miseries etc. in the respective major and sub periods. Thus these are Marakas (as above) and are primarily related to descend death upon the native. According to their dispositions there may be death or difficulties.

NODES: RAHU AND KETU AS MARAKAS:

If Rahu or Ketu be in the ascendant, 7th, 8th, or 12th thereof, or be in the 7th from a Maraka lord or be with such a planet, they acquire powers of killing in their major or sub periods.

MARAKA PLANETS

Death, as we all believe, is the birth or start of a new life. It is the something which is feared, accepted, embraced and celebrated all across the world.

Marakas are planets which are possessed with the power of inflicting death on a native. Death generally occurs during the periods and sub periods of these planets.

Suppose, say the horoscope of an individual indicates middle life or Madhyayu; whereas the Dasa of the most powerful maraca comes in operation after 80 years. In such a circumstance, the period of a planet, no matter even if it is less malicious in causing death which comes within the maxim number of years allotted for Madhyayu, must be considered as bringing about death, in preference to the most malicious one.

It must always be ascertained beforehand, whether a horoscope indicates short, middle or long life. The Maraka planets need to be determined and the time when their influences will come into fruition also needs to be determined.

The 8th house from the lagna i.e. the ascendant and the 8th house from that, i.e. the 3rd from the lagna are termed asHouses of life. The 7th house and the 2nd house are known as the Houses of death.

The 2nd house is always stronger in inflicting death than the 7th house. Planets who occupy the 2nd are stronger than the planets who own it, in tending to cause death and the planets that are in association with the lord of the 2nd are the most powerful in causing death.

Saturn, inclined to produce evil by his conjunction with the lords of the death houses, will cause death in preference to those planets. There are many rules to ascertain the probable time of death knowing beforehand Maraka Dasas.

Summarizing the above, death will be caused by:
a.Planets who occupy the 2nd and the 7th house.
b.Planets who are lords of the 2nd and the 7th house.
c.Planets who are not the owners of the 2nd and the 7th house and who are not occupying these houses but join the lords of those houses.
d.Lords of the 3rd and the 8th house are also probable causers of death.
e.If the Dasa of a death inflicting planet does not at all come into operation, then the most malicious planet in the horoscope will cause death.

One may wonder how the twins born , one baby girl, and one baby boy born with a difference of 2 minduration are different in their attitude and how Astrology can delenate when their Birth Charts, And Shodasa Varga Kundalis are the same. Our Ancient Scientists Called Rishis have thought about this problem, and devided the Rasi Chart to minute detail, and each position have been alloted to different Deities. Basing on the particular area of life the predictions are given basing on a different varga chart with their deities.

I will now give an example to justify my statement. Let me take these two horoscopes of twins, just born in two minutes difference. The position of the planets in the varga charts [ the same has been copied by western Astrologers And Called As Harmonic Charts] Upto Shashtiamsa D-60 [Or Sixtieth Harmonic Chart] Is The Same.

But , there is a big but here- the deities of the Lagna which is fast moving is different even in the D-9 Navamsa chart.

The Navamsa Lagna is in Manushya in Boy’s Chart and in Deva , In Girl’s Chart, thus their marriage partners will be of different nature. The Lagna in Chaturvimsamsa of the Boy is Bhaga, and the Lagna of that of the Girl is Vrishadwaja, thus their Eductional pattern is also different. Similarly with other Vargas or Harmonic charts.

Recently I happen to see an Article in the Web about an interesting formula to find out the age when you can Marry. There are four Planets which can denote the Love and attraction between a Male and a Female. They are Venus, Mars, Moon, and Sun. Symbolically Venus and Moon are Feminine and Mars and Sun are Masculine in Astrology.

The zodiac distance between any Two male and female Planets and also between them and the Ascendant and the 10^th House Cusp called as Midheaven will give the age in years, 1 degree is taken as 1 year.

But this may not always work as the Venus is close to Sun in the Heaven and the Zodaical distance may be very small and Hence it is cautioned to be judicious in finding the age of Marriage by this method.

Let us take a practicle example to check this method. this method

VEN - SUN = 54 – 00 MINUS 08 – 27 = 45 -33 SUBTRACTING 20 = 25Y-9M

MOON - MARS = 182 – 20 MINUS 50 – 09 = 132 – 11 SUBTRACTING 110 = 22Y-02M

Rounding off to the Marriagible age , We can assume the Age at Marriage as per the above calculation

173-53 - 150 = 23 y – 10 m OR 33Y-10M

3-51 + 20 = 23y- 10m OR 33Y-10M

45-33 - 20 = 25y-9M OR 35Y-9M

132-11 - 110 = 22y- 02m OR 32Y-02M

Average = 95-08 / 4 = 23y-11m OR 33Y- 11M

14-08-1964 - 21-04-1940 = 13D-03M-24Y = 24Y-3.433M = 24y-04m

THE DIFFERENCE IS 5 MONTHS.
